I haven’t posted anything here in a while, so here is a character design of myself,
trying some new color techniques inspired by my friend Drew Hill and his work @ http://www.drewhillstudio.com/
Here is how i started.
First i sketched up a face with alternate noses and then the body. Once i did that i started to
play with the scale and proportions to get the body type more like mine and less like the kid from UP.
Then I created a silhouette to help define the figure and its overall form.
After that I fleshed out the flat colors, all in FLASH.
At this point I brought the flat colors into Photoshop and started to color/texture it up.
I photographed and outlined my glasses to composite them in then final illustration.
And after all that, here is the final illustration, I hope you dig it.

A feature in Photoshop called “content aware fill” takes the pixels around a selection and adds them to the selected area thus removing artifacts from images. This selection allows the software to recognize its surroundings and determine the best approach to organize the surrounding content into the selection. Looking at this idea, and implementing it into your site navigation in a reverse manner sets the stage for a navigational element that re-sizes the content around it to display more information to the user. This navigational element can be considered content aware.
